The national Education Minister, Nouria Benghebrit, has asserted at the opening of an education – oriented seminar in the city of Boumerdes, 50 Kms west of Algiers, that the threshold to courses for the Baccalaureate exam candidates in the country’s secondary schools will be scrapped for the 2014 – 2015 academic year.

Mrs Benghebrit pointed out such a threshold option applied before the 2014 session of the Baccalaureate exam had failed to achieve positive results by literally decreasing the learning level of the secondary school cycle pupils.

The unsatisfying grades secured by many Baccalaureate candidates during the 2014 exam session should be an eye – opener for all those concerned in order to avert a devaluation of such a crucial exam and safeguard its credibility and importance for all those yearning to have access to University studies with flying colours, she underscored.

The National Education Minister also evoked during her statement the protracted strike now being waged by school bursars, stressing that the Ministry’s remedial measures to end such a long drawn – out work stoppage had fizzled out due to the “stubborn attitude” of the strikers, as she put it.

Mrs Nouria Benghebrit said to this effect that this vexed issue had been referred to justice by the Education Ministerial Department.
