Four parliamentary committees are preparing to hold hearings for government members at the beginning of next October, to strengthen the role of parliament in monitoring government performance and following up on the implementation of established policies and programs, including the Economic Affairs, Agriculture, Health, Youth and Sports Committees.

These sessions will focus on discussing sectoral programs and plans and listening to executive body members regarding the concerns raised by representatives of the people. In parallel, field trips will be organized to the wilayas to inspect the progress of projects and the extent of their implementation, especially those that were the subject of investigation and inquiry by the MPs. Still, their implementation was delayed due to the preoccupation of many of them with the recent election campaign.

These steps come within the framework of the parliament’s keenness to follow up on government performance and ensure the achievement of the declared objectives in a manner that serves the national interest.

In this context, the Committee on Economic Affairs, Development, Industry, Trade and Planning of the lower house of Parliament held a meeting chaired by the committee chairman, Mohamed Hannouni, during which it was agreed to organize hearing sessions for the government staff, officials of the directorates of agencies related to the sector, in addition to some economic operators, to follow up on the financial issues that have been raised recently.

During this meeting, the program for directing temporary information missions to the wilayas was discussed, with a special focus on free trade zones, Echorouk sources said.

The Committee of Youth, Sports and Community Activity held a meeting chaired by Hodaifa Zaghouane, devoted to setting the committee’s work schedule for the 2024-2025 annual program.

During the meeting, the committee members proposed a work program that includes organizing information missions and inspection visits to several bodies, establishments and institutions in various wilayas of the country, related to the committee’s competencies, in addition to holding hearings for some ministers, sector directors and sports federation officials.

The committee members also discussed various points, especially those related to organizing a parliamentary day, study days, coordination, consultation sessions and proposing draft laws.

The same applies to the Committee on Agriculture, Fisheries and Environmental Protection, which also held a meeting chaired by Mohamed Ouerthi, Chairman of the Committee, as soon as Parliament was officially opened.

At the beginning of the meeting, he stressed the importance that President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune attaches to the agricultural sector and recalled his commitment to working to achieve self-sufficiency in grains by the end of 2027.

During the meeting, the committee members confirmed the need to pay great attention to the marine fishing sector and strive to make it a sector that contributes to the national economy, given the great potential that Algeria possesses, in addition to working to highlight the role of the committee in the field of environmental protection.

They also called for preparing a work program that includes all sectors within the scope of the committee’s jurisdiction, confirming the importance of accompanying farmers in the field and raising their concerns within the framework of the quest to achieve food security.

Furthermore, the Health, Labor, Social Affairs and Vocational Training Committee also held a meeting, chaired by Hamsi Said, where the discussion focused on studying the draft law on the protection and promotion of persons with special needs referred to the committee, in addition to agreeing to outline a work program that includes listening to government representatives, and officials of some bodies, institutions and associations whose sectors fall under the committee’s jurisdiction.
