Presidential candidate Mohammed Morsi resilient to defeat former Mubarek’s PM Ahmed Chafik

The Egyptian presidential candidate Mohammed Morsi is multiplying contacts with other parties to secure allies with the view to defeating his rival, the former PM Ahmed Chafik in the second round of the elections.

  • He has already conferred with influential figures in the Consultative Council that includes leading salafis personalities like Mohammed Hassen and Mohammed Hocine Yakoub with whom he discussed several issues surrounding the elections and requested support from them.

  • The meeting wound up with the release of communiqué that announces the Council’s support for the Islamic candidate Mohammed Morsi after discussing several questions dealing with his future vision of leadership and standpoint over the Shiite community.

  • “ The council has decided to support Morsi candidacy after receiving guarantees that he will abide by the Sunni and Muslim Brotherhood’s principles so far as he can, work for the protection of the most vulnerable social classes and be attentive to the grievances of the citizens” , the communiqué read.

  • They have also called on the citizens to vote en masse and choose the one who will abide by the Islamic law “ Chariaa” because there lies their salvation.

  • Mohammed Morsi had also a meeting in a five star hotel by the Nile river with Abdelmouneim Abulfoutouh during two hours time. He has declared that the discussion was constructive and both men reached a consensus over the necessity to bar the route for the old regime’s guard Ahmed Chafik in order to fulfil the objectives of the revolution.

  • For his part, Abulfoutouh has denied the existence of a secret deal concerning participation of the previous candidates that failed to reach the second round in the future government but he declared” Mohammed Morsi reaches out to all the political actors without exclusion”.

  • To recall, Abulfoutouh and Hamdine Sebbahi have met during their campaign trails with various groups and movements that led the revolution including April 6 movement with the aim reach a consensus over the necessity to support Mohammed Morsi’s candidacy against Ahmed Chafik.

  • Talking during a press conference on Wednesday, Mohammed Morsi has asserted that the post of vice –president will not necessarily be given to a militant from the Liberty and Justice party and will have several deputies from various political horizons
