Robert F.Kennedy Center refutes Moroccan Allegations: “Kerry Kennedy safe in Algeria, delegation continues”

Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights refuted the rumors about its President Kerry Kennedy, who led a delegation of American human rights, which said that she was abducted while on a human rights trip near the UN refugee camps in Tindouf, southwest Algeria.

The center said in a brief press release; “There have been reports that Kerry Kennedy, President of the Robert F. Kennedy for Justice and Human Rights, was abducted while on a human rights delegation trip near the UN refugee camps in Tindouf, Algeria. These reports are false. Ms. Kennedy and the rest of the delegation are safe and the trip will proceed as planned. Security has been provided for the delegation”.

Kerry Kennedy held talks in Laayoun, Rabat and Tindouf, which focused on the situation of human rights in the area, on the basis of preparation of the report after the delegation’s return to Washington, about gross violations of the basic rights of the Saharawi people, citing its agreement with Aminatou Haidar, the Sahrawi human rights activist, after the collection ‭of testimonies of women who have ‭been victims of ‭human rights violations‬, to be included ‭in the ‭final report of the ‭Center‭.

Previously Rabat prevented the American delegation from visiting the refugee camps, since last August 20 last, the date of announcement of the human rights trip, which lasted a whole week, fearing of detecting the truth about the grave violations against the Saharawi people, as media, which work for the Moroccan “regime” tried to intimidate the U.S. delegation by creating rumors about the operations of abduction by ” Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb “, days before the trip, then talked about a plan to abduct Ms. Kerry Kennedy that was prepared by ” Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb”, noting that the CIA received information about this plan, and report it to its Algerian counterpart.

The F.Kennedy Center’s trip to Tindouf camps in Algeria has already raised fears and discontent of the Moroccan politicians and media, through bias, against the backdrop of meetings with figures in favor of the Polisario Front, including the activist Aminatou Haidar, who is known for her long fight against the Moroccan oppression, as sge won the Robert Kennedy Center Prize for Human Rights‭.

In the same context, Morocco tried, using all its means and efforts, to mislead the international public opinion about the volatile security situation in the refugee camps, in order to convince it (international public opinion) about the need to close the camps in Tindouf, on allegations of its fear of using the area for recruiting and training terrorists, or to exploit it as a shelter to cover up the professionals of the cross-border crime and human, weapons and drugs traffickers, taking advantage of the kidnapping, which targeted three Europeans working in the humanitarian field on October 22, 2011, near Tindouf.
