Roman bust stolen from Algeria found in New York

The Roman bust was destined to be sold one million US Dollars.

US judicial authorities revealed that the bust of the Roman King “Marcus Orelus” along with 08 other pieces of art ,stolen from Skikda (eastern Algeria) museum in 2003, Italian thieves took them to Tunis than France to finish in the States where they have been recovered by the federal services.

The museum officials waited two years to signal the disappearance of nine antic pieces of art found exhibited in “Rock Villar” gallery in 2004 which means that these historic pieces were stolen well before.

The Algerian authorities gave the serial number of the stolen bust to Interpol following a complaint lodged in 2006.

But in 2004 British experts remarked that the Roman bust exhibited in New York was brought from Europe, than went on further in their investigation to trace back its origin to North Africa . Immediately after the experts signalled this to the US authorities.

The Roman bust is one of the rarest pieces of arts in the world and was destined to be sold 01 million US Dollar in a French gallery of art, but the US authorities asked their French counterparts to stop the transaction.
