Ryad Saidaoui: Algeria ended Arab injustice in Syria
Tunisian academic and chief of the Arab Center for Political and Social Studies in Geneva Ryad Saidaoui says Algeria is not against the Arab Spring. “Syrian foreign minister’s visit to Algeria is symbolic,” he told Echorouk in an interview
How do you see Syrian foreign minister’s visit to Algeria?
Syria was part of all the Arab-Israeli wars but it underwent injustice by Arabs. Only Algeria, Lebanon and Iraq stood by its side in the Arab League.
Syria was besieged. Saudi and Qatar funded terror groups.
Walid Al Muallem’s visit to Algiers is symbolic. Algeria embodies the November 1st Revolution values. He was received as the winner. The Syrian State started defeating terror after Tadmur had been released from ISIS.
We may understand the Lebanese and Iraqi position in support of Syria. It is due to neighbourhood and doctrine. It is believed that fears of the so-called Arab Spring are behind the Algerian position. Is that true?
Foreign interference in Syria was very clear. A former French foreign minister said the UK asked for help to hit Syria. The French official then said his country is not concerned by those “conspiracies.” Saudi Prince and former national security minister Bandar planned to hit the stability of Syria before the so-called the Arab Spring. So, it is about foreign plans and not an Arab Spring.
Algeria is afraid of this foreign plan. We noticed a media attack on it through London and European capitals-based channels. Gulf countries such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia seize any bad news to conduct a campaign on Algeria.
I believe that Algeria protected Arab national security. It supported Syria and did not let it down.
