A Spanish newspaper described the Moroccan monarch, Mohammed VI, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez as a “trio of failure and shame,” as it reviewed the maneuvers of the three rulers in the far western basin of the Mediterranean Sea, which, as is well known, have caused political crises whose chapters are still ongoing.

The Spanish newspaper “El Independiente,” in a lengthy article published on Monday, January 12, 2025, attacked the three figures, stating that they “lack political competence and virtue,” while both Macron and Sanchez exhibit an “unbridled ambition for power,” due to the harsh blows they received in recent elections (their parties losing the last legislative elections), yet they refused to step down from power and clung to it.

The author of the article highlighted the role played by the Moroccan regime in pushing Pedro Sanchez and Emmanuel Macron to destroy relations with Algeria, and explained in detail how Rabat pressured Madrid by sending tens of thousands of irregular migrants from sub-Saharan Africa to storm the barbed wire fences in the cities of Ceuta and Melilla, which are under Spanish administration, in order to reach Spanish and European territory.

It also pointed out the Moroccan regime’s use of the “Pegasus” software, developed by the Zionist company “NSO,” to spy on the phones of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and several of his ministers, such as the Interior, Foreign Affairs, and Defense, and to steal secret documents from them, as well as for French President Emmanuel Macron, which made Madrid and Paris succumb to the whims of the Moroccan regime by providing what was demanded of them, which was support for the so-called “autonomy plan” in Western Sahara.

The article stated: “Both Mohammed VI, with his failed attempt to subjugate the Sahrawi people, and Sanchez and Macron, by implementing disastrous policies and controversial and illegal statements that undermine the rule of law, have seen their countries on the brink of collapse and have adopted choices, in this losing alliance, which they considered the only way to embark together on a perilous journey.”

“El Independiente” delved into the personality of Moroccan King Mohammed VI, stating that “the man was forced to succeed his deceased father (Hassan II) in 1999,” in exchange for a promise from the Moroccan regime that “his sole function – merely symbolic – would be limited to appearing publicly as a supreme king who theoretically rules the destiny of Morocco (maintaining the continuity of the Alawite dynasty), while at the same time, he would continue to entertain himself, without changing an iota of his excessive routine of ostentation and extravagance.”

The newspaper went so far as to describe both the French President and the Spanish Prime Minister as “experts working for the King of Morocco,” and said that they “will do their utmost to shape this farce to fit their empty and vulgar speeches aimed at manipulating and misleading public opinion,” despite the fact that by doing so, and the words are the author’s, “they are committing perjury, but that does not bother them. They are certain that their erroneous and deceptive actions will go unnoticed by many in the obscure world of propaganda in which they operate.”

“El Independiente” stated that Sanchez and Macron belong to “a new generation of politicians who, in addition to being unscrupulous, have made narcissism their doctrine, hypocrisy their profession, and contradiction their characteristic. For them, the end justifies the means. And what is this desired end that they place even above their dignity? It is the satisfaction of their ego and the consolidation of their grip on power.”

It described what Spain experienced as “humiliation,” referring to the Moroccan regime allowing more than nine thousand of its citizens to cross into Spanish cities. The humiliation did not stop there, the article added, as Mohammed VI pretended to be the aggrieved party and recalled his ambassador to Spain for consultations, who left Madrid angrily, issuing threats.

At a time when Sanchez should have reacted appropriately to the “Moroccan aggression,” “El Independiente” said, King Mohammed VI issued a statement attributed to Sanchez, in which he declared his support for Morocco in its illegal occupation of Western Sahara.

The newspaper stated that this (personal) pro-Morocco stance by Sanchez, announced from Rabat and not from Moncloa Palace, radically changed the traditional position of relative neutrality maintained by successive governments – regardless of their political affiliations – over the past 47 years regarding the Western Sahara issue.

Because of this, Spain has been excluded as a necessary party that can contribute to peace in the Maghreb region, given its unavoidable responsibility as the administrative power of Western Sahara (former Spanish province No. 53), and it has also undermined relations with Algeria, Spain’s main energy partner.
