Sellal: ministerial meeting to examine policemen demands

Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal Wednesday said a ministerial meeting will be held with senior security officers on Sunday to examine protesting policemen’s demands.

“Concerned ministries will discuss indemnity and bonus issue,” Sellal told journalists at the Prime Ministry in Algiers.

“A total of 12 demands were met. Upon request of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, solutions were found for 12 demands. They are related to bonus and work organization,” he added.

Speaking about general management system, he said it will be followed up by the national police department. Necessary measures will be taken and an investigation will be opened into management operations by some security officials.

Sellal stressed the necessity of dialogue as a way to solve problems.

“Policemen make very big efforts worthy to be valorized. A set of measures will be taken in the next few days or weeks to improve their conditions,” he said.

A few days ago, a number of policemen were wounded in clashed between residents in the province of Ghardaia (south of Algeria). Their colleagues took to the street in Algiers calling on the government to meet their demands.
