Syrian Opposition Reports Clashes in Capital
Syrian opposition groups say clashes have erupted overnight in the capital, Damascus.
Human rights activists and the Local Coordination Committees say fighting between government troops and rebels broke out in the Kfar Souseh district early Sunday. The LCC added that the government brought in “huge reinforcements” of troops.
The number of casualties, if any, is unclear at this time.
The latest violence came hours after a suicide bomber killed nine people and wounded more than 100 others by detonating his explosives-laden car outside a Syrian state security compound in Deir el Zour.
Syrian television broadcast footage of damaged buildings, smoldering cars, and trucks turned upside down. It also showed members of a United Nations-Arab League observer team visiting the scene of the blast.
