Syrian refugees: “Algeria in our hearts, but the future is Europe
Number of Syrian refugees who are in Algeria diminished, and it is no longer among the favorite destinations for those who were forced by the war to flee their homeland that turned into a ruin, and although the official and popular aid which they received in Algeria, but their suffering from the bureaucracy and the difficulty of settling their administrative situation in light of the Algerian law that tightened on their necks, all these causes made them reside in Algeria with the eyes that look to Europe.
Labor license, dream of residence, teaching are three objectives that are chasing Syrian refugees who chose Algeria because they were forced by the war, but they were surprised that the situation will not be easy at all, as just they set their feet in Algeria, after paying the ticket that exceeds 12,000 Algerian dinars, they perceived that it is difficult to obtain residence, and even jobs are limited to restaurants and some crafts, as owners of workshops usually deprived them from the guarantee of declaration (they work illegally), which forced the Syrians to leave Algeria despite the feelings that have towards the Algerian people, which stood by them with humanitarian aid and sympathy, heading towards Europe, thus Algeria becomes just a point of “Crossing” to refugees only.
Syrian political activist, Abou Salem Athad Salem, told Echorouk that the Syrian refugees, unfortunately, become a burden on the Arab regimes, and what eased their suffering is the sympathy of the people, which forces them to move towards Europe, despite the risks that beset them.
“Number of Syrian refugees in Algeria diminished largely compared with the beginning of the Syrian security crisis, and the reason for this is the difficult problems which they faced in Algeria, where they live without a residence document, with the difficulty of obtaining jobs.”
“Algeria, like the other Arab countries set conditions to refugees without taking into account their humanitarian and psychological situation.”
“Countries should already examine the files and should know detailed information about the refugees before they live on its soil, especially after the Syrian Revolution took a turning point due to the emergence of terrorist organizations, but this may not be an excuse to put everyone in one basket.
