The Algerians aren’t compelled to pay a 30 dinar tax when leaving Tunisia

The Tunisian tourism Minister, Mrs Amal Kerboul, has asserted that the Algerians are not required to pay a tax of 30 Tunisian dinars when quitting Tunisian territory after a stay there.

The new tax imposed on foreigners when leaving Tunisia came in line with Tunisia’s new finance law which came into force on August 28th but was later adjourned until October 1st 2014.

To this effect, the Tunisian tourism minister confirmed the enforcement of the new tax to be paid by all foreigners at the end of their stay in Tunisian territory with the exception of Algerian nationals who wouldn’t be concerned by such a tax.

This exception is a clear indication of the strong Algerian-Tunisian relations as Tunisia’s economy relies heavily on the tourism activity.

The Tunisian authorities are eager, through this special tax exemption in favour of the Algerians, to attract more Algerian tourists to Tunisia.

Over one million Algerian tourists flock to neighbouring Tunisia annually, thus giving a solid boost to the ever-expanding Tunisian tourism sector.
