The Foreign Diplomatic Flurry Of Activity In Algeria Continues!

The foreign diplomatic flurry of activity in Algeria continued on Monday, with the arrival of two foreign ministers, including the foreign ministers of the United Arab Emirates, Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, according to a statement issued by the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The visit of the Emirati Foreign Minister coincided with the presence of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Algeria, who ended his visit on Monday heading to the Gambia and from there to Senegal, which highlights the unprecedented diplomatic movement, which characterizes the diplomatic scene in Algeria since exceeding the recent constitutional vacuum, by electing a new president of the republic.
Algeria has not lived this movement for many years. The disease of former President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has paralyzed the diplomatic machine of the country, because of its lack of focus in his hand, as he was confined to a wheelchair, which caused Algeria to lose its position as a regional power in the Arab and African regions.

The UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs was received him, by Minister of Foreign Affairs Sabri Boukadoum, and the bilateral talks dealt with “assessing bilateral cooperation in all its dimensions and studying the prospects for strengthening it, especially in the areas of partnership and investment”, according to the Algerian Foreign Ministry statement, which also indicated that the talks also focused on the situation in Libya in the light of recent developments unfolding in this neighboring country.

In this line, Algeria and the international actors are seeking to find a political solution that puts an end to the Libyan crisis through comprehensive dialogue between the Libyan parties at issue away from any external interference.

The Libyan issue was at the forefront of the files that were discussed between Boukadoum and the visiting UAE Foreign Minister.

Algeria had brought together in Algiers earlier this week the foreign ministers of Libya’s neighbors, a few days after the Berlin conference on the Libyan crisis, which stressed the need to respect the ceasefire between the fighting brothers in the eastern neighboring country, a meeting that the UAE did not attend by virtue of not being from the neighboring countries, but it is still considered a key party to what is happening in Libya, as it is one of the active states in supporting one of the parties to the conflict in Libya, along with other countries such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt and France, which means that the presence of the UAE Foreign Minister was necessary to compensate for the absence of an important party from the meeting of the foreign ministers of neighboring countries of Libya.

The Libyan file was also, at the top of the files discussed by the President of the Republic with the Turkish President during the latter’s visit to Algeria, knowing that the Turkish and Emirati positions are on opposite sides on the Libyan crisis, which means that their commitment to a ceasefire in Libya is considered crucial.

Although the visits to Algeria of the Turkish President and that of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates to Algeria are justified in many respects, the milestones of the visit of the Minister of State in charge of the Foreign Affairs of the Mongolian State to Algeria were not very clear, which remains a traditional diplomatic act.

The Mongolian minister was received at his level by an Algerian official, in charge of the national community and competencies abroad, namely Rachid Beldahane. The discussions dealt with evaluating the Algerian-Mongolian relations and ways and means of bolstering them in the near future.
