The Hidden Role Of Sinister Driencourt In Sansal’s Targeting Of Algeria

MP Sabrina Sebaihi, from the National Assembly (the lower house of parliament) representing the Green Party, accused former French Ambassador to Algeria, the sinister Xavier Driencourt, of being behind the transgressions of Franco-Algerian writer Boualem Sansal against Algeria, its territorial integrity, and the symbols of its struggle for its hard-won independence.

Sebaihi described the retired diplomat as the ideologue of the far-right, who stands behind attempts to harm Algerian interests and target its diaspora.

The MP of Algerian origin wrote on her “X” account on Tuesday: “Driencourt is not just ‘the former French Ambassador to Algeria.’ He is the head of the strategic committee of the ‘Frontières’ foundation, and close to Pierre-Édouard Stérin.”

She added: “In other words, the racist-tinged trilogy: Algeria – suburbs – Muslims, is not a coincidence: it is his creation,” referring to the former French ambassador, who has spared no effort since his retirement in fueling the far-right and inciting public opinion in his country, in order to create justifications for targeting bilateral relations.

The MP’s tweet came in response to hostile statements made by Driencourt on “CNews” and “Europe 1,” in which he strongly defended the policy of former Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau, who was dismissed from the second “Lecornu” government, towards Algeria, which ended in failure as agreed upon by the political class in France.

Driencourt justified the failure of the “iron fist” policy adopted by Retailleau with Algeria, saying: “The iron fist policy advocated by Bruno Retailleau did not succeed for one reason: it was simply not implemented in the first place.”

He added: “The former Minister of Interior (Retailleau) was prevented from imposing the iron fist policy, while France still grants 250,000 visas to Algerians, and an additional 1,000 visas to Algerian students, just as Algerian personalities still move around Paris normally.”

The former French Ambassador to Algeria spoke about the new Interior Minister’s upcoming visit to Algeria, expressing doubt about its success, saying: “I don’t think he will return from Algeria with Boualem Sansal and Christophe Gliez, because they are convicted, and days ago, the first of November passed without a presidential pardon, nor has the issue of Algerian immigrants who have been issued expulsion orders from French territory been resolved.”

Xavier Driencourt also expressed his delight at the success of the far-right, led by Marine Le Pen’s party, in passing the resolution demanding the repeal of the 1968 agreement concerning the movement of people between Algeria and France, while he attacked left-wing MPs, especially those from Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s La France Insoumise party:

“Left-wing MPs, especially La France Insoumise, strongly opposed the French Parliament’s resolution, and everyone noticed Ms. Mathilde Pano’s shouting, as if we had torn out her heart. The motive behind this is to chase after the votes of the suburbs and Muslims.”

For the first time, the hidden role played by Xavier Driencourt in pushing Boualem Sansal, who is serving a five-year prison sentence for undermining Algeria’s territorial integrity, has been revealed. Sabrina Sebaihi confirmed that Driencourt holds a very sensitive position within the far-right “Frontières” foundation, which embraced Sansal and implicated him in the criminal statements he made, which led to him falling under the purview of Algerian law.

Based on the position he holds within the “Frontières” foundation, as “head of the strategic committee” according to MP Sabrina Sebaihi, the threads of the conspiracy woven by the retired diplomat to harm Algerian-French relations, serving the agenda of the far-right, which consistently uses Algeria as fertile ground for its electoral project, are revealed.

As for Pierre-Édouard Stérin, whom Sabrina Sebaihi’s tweet referred to, he is a businessman with far-right leanings, known for putting his wealth at the disposal of far-right politicians to buy off media platforms and redirect them to serve their agendas, foremost among them targeting Algerian interests.
