The National Gendarmerie seized 116 mines west of Algeria
The National Gendarmerie of Tlemcen thwarted Monday an attempt to smuggle 116 anti-personnel mines and arrested two traffickers, now under investigation, to trace the origin of these expolsive devices which were extracted from western border areas.

On the basis of previous investigations conducted by the security services, these mines might have been addressed to the workshops where explosives and suicide belts are manufactured in the main strongholds of the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat “GSPC” under the leadership of Droudkel.

The process, according to Echorouk sources, came after the traffic accident in Sidi El Djilali where an “Audi” vehicle crashed due to excessive speed by its driver. After their swift intervention, the regional gendarmerie of Sidi El Djilali, discoved mines inside the car, that’s why they intensified inspection using police dogs.

Previously, the national gendarmerie seized 186 mines that were smuggled on board two motorcycles in the area of Ghazawet, Telmcen, west of Algeria.

The head of the smuggling network was identified. He is a Moroccan from Beni Derar, a border region where there is a secret workshop for dismantling the mines in order to extract the “TNT” to sell it to the terrorist groups.
