Thousands of youth protest in the Emir Abdelkader Square (Algiers)

Algiers- Security services prevented here on Monday thousands of youth removed from the national army from organizing a sit-in and move closer to the vicinity of the Ministry of National Defense, and forced them to retreat to the Emir Abdelkader square where they organized a protest, calling upon the President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to re-integrate them to the ranks of the People’s National Army.

The Ministry of National Defense refused to receive representatives of youth removed from the Algerian army on Monday morning, although it asked the committee, of 10 soldiers and 4 representatives of those dismissed, to come on May 16 for a first meeting as ordered by the President Bouteflika due to unfair decision.

Representatives of dismissed soldiers told Echorouk that no one received them in the Ministry of National Defense and remain standing and waiting in front of the entrance until the evening.

Youth who protest in the Emir Abdelkader square in Algiers were removed from the ranks of the national army for unfair reasons including chronic diseases they got during their service such as kidney, asthma, cancer and other illnesses , and now they faced difficulties in finding jobs.

They were thousands to protest in the Emir Abdelkader Square and security services built a human wall around the place in order to prevent them from marching. No clashes and injuries were recorded.

The protesters decided to launch an open sit-in in the same square until the realization of concrete decisions by the Ministry of National Defense about reintegration and meeting their committee and representatives, or governmental decisions like municipality guards’, asserting that they served Algerian and fought terrorism and are ready to serve the country once again.
