Three Years In Prison For Three Libyan Gunmen Who Infiltrated Into Algerian Territory

The Criminal Court of Illizi province (south-eastern Algeria) sentenced on Tuesday, three Libyan nationals to three years in prison, for committing a serious felony through the setting up of an armed group ostensibly meant to carry out terrorist and sabotage acts targeting Algeria’s state security, in addition to offenses relating to the possession and carrying and transfer of war weapons and ammunition.

According to judicial sources, the facts of the case hark back to September 30th, 2016, when a patrol of border guards of the National People’s Army (ANP), arrested the three defendants of Libyan nationality inside Algerian territory, on board two Toyota all-terrain vehicles of a “Land Cruiser” type, in the area of Bir al-Charif, on the Algerian-Libyan border municipality of Al Dabdab in northern Illizi province.

After a thorough inspection of the vehicles, the ANP troops found Kalashnikov weapons, a hunting rifle as well as live ammunition, in addition to cellular phones and a box containing about 6 kilograms of incense.

The three gunmen hailing from the Libyan border town of Ghadames, were rounded up on the spot and were swiftly transferred to In Amenas for the purpose of in-depth security investigations, after which their file was conveyed to justice.
