Tizi Ouzou pays vibrant homage to Algerian Mouloud Feraoun

A cultural week is being held from 13-20 March at the community arts centre of Tizi-Ouzou (100km east of Algiers ), to pay tribute to the Algerian writer Mouloud Feraoun.

The Algerian novelist and teacher whose classics such as (The Poor Man’s Son) – 1950 , (Earth and Blood) – 1953 and (Paths Going Uphill) – 1957 have been translated in several languages including English and German, was assassinated by the Organization of the Secret Army (OAS) in the eve of the Algerian independence, March 15th 1962 along with his companions.

 

Mouloud Feraoun was born in 1913 to a poor peasant’s family in a rugged Kabyle, Tizi Hibel (Tizi OUzou). After brilliant early studies he moved to Algiers to hold a teaching degree.

 

His works gave warm and vivid portrait of Berber life including history, biography and fiction.

 

In addition to exhibitions, video screenings and conferences, meant for recounting the life and literary career of the author.

 

” the cultural week’s programme also includes a book fair, to run from 15-20 March, devoted to the event, as well as a contest on best drawing and writing on Feraoun, to stir up competition among talented schoolboys.
