Tourist Flights Resume Between Paris and Djanet
Direct flights on the international line between Charles de Gaulle Airport (France) and Sheikh Amoud Ben el-Mokhtar Airport in Djanet (southern Algeria) have resumed for the third season as part of the new Sahara Tourism Season 2024/2025, officials from the Directorate of Tourism and Traditional Industry in the Wilaya of Djanet said.
The first flight from Paris (France) for this season landed at dawn today, carrying a group of foreign tourists coming to the Djanet region (Algerian Sahara) to enjoy the beauty of the “Bride of Tassili”.
Upon arrival at Djanet airport, foreign tourists benefited from the entry visa procedures approved by the Algerian state to promote Sahara tourism, in addition to the services of the single window that was established during the 2022/2023 tourist season, to contribute to facilitating tourists’ access to attractions by unifying all services in one structure, as explained by the local director of tourism and traditional industry, Almine Hammadi.
All the necessary services have been mobilized to ensure the optimal implementation of the facilities approved by the Algerian state in this area, including the services of Djanet Airport, the Border Police, the Directorate of Tourism and Traditional Industry, in addition to other services, to ensure the comfort of tourists arriving in the region, the same source added.
The same official also explained that a significant increase in the number of arrivals is expected during this season thanks to the facilities approved by the state, including the possibility of foreign tourists obtaining a visa upon arrival at border crossings, which will contribute to promoting Sahara tourism.
Several foreign tourists expressed upon their arrival in Djanet, their happiness to visit this world-famous tourist area via the direct flights, which, according to them, relieved them of the trouble of travelling by stopover flights, allowing them to enjoy the enormous tourist potential of Djanet, whose desert was classified as one of the best international tourist destinations recommended for visiting.
For his part, Amoumen Afsour, one of the actors in the field of desert tourism in the city of Djanet, explained that the weekly direct flight between Paris and Djanet has contributed to increasing the number of foreign tourists arriving in the region and neighbouring cities during the past seasons, which allowed – according to him – to ensure great vitality for the tourism sector in the region, which has tourism components that place it at the forefront of desert tourism destinations.
In turn, the head of the regional syndicate of tourism and travel agencies in Djanet, Ben Dahan Baba, stressed that cooperation between these agencies and local authorities contributes to improving the tourism environment and making it sustainable in the wilaya, and also ensuring the preservation of tourist sites, which requires – as he said – the cooperation of everyone, including visitors to these areas.
During the past three tourist seasons, the Wilaya of Djanet (southern Algeria) has witnessed an increase in the number of foreign tourists who flocked to the Djanet region, with the arrival of over 11,000 foreign tourists from 79 nationalities, and 21,000 Algerian tourists during the 2023/2024 season, while the number of foreign tourists in the previous season 2022/2023 reached 7,000 foreign tourists from 37 nationalities, and 18,000 national tourists, while during the 2021/2022 season, over 5,335 foreign tourists was recorded, according to statistics from the tourism directorate.
To make the current Sahara tourism season a success, tourism and travel agencies in the city of Djanet had previously launched a voluntary campaign to clean tourist sites such as the areas of Tadrart El Hamra, Asendilane, Tikoubaouine, and other sites in cooperation with the sector’s directorate, associations active in the field, and hotel owners.
