Tunisia Ministry of Interior said it has taken tough security measures on border with Algeria to anticipate any terror attacks or infiltrations of terrorists, following detecting some movements of armed groups there.

The spokesman of the Tunisian Ministry of Interior, Naji Al-Zairi, has been quoted by local Al Masdar newspaper as saying that security services have detected movements of members of Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) on the border with Algeria, in the last few months. He added that the national border guards have started carrying out patrols in the region, following the interception of 4 suspects attempting intrusion to Tunisia.

Mr Al-Zairi further specified that the authorities have set up a security plan starting up by 1 July to 15 September, to secure the country, including the tourist attraction spots, amid the increasing potential terror attacks threat.

To recall, a colonel and a soldier in the Tunisian army had been killed a couple of weeks ago in a clash with armed men, suspected of pertaining to AQIM. Meanwhile, Tunisian security forces have killed two armed men, a Libyan and an Algerian, believed to pertain to AQIM, in the locality of Rouhia, about 70 km from border with Algeria.
