U.S. Adminiatration: “Police Services In Algeria Do Not Use Oppression”

U.S. administration noted an improvement in the field of human rights in Algeria and said that there are great response and cooperation from the Algerian authorities in this file, and Washington has denied “criticizing or congratulating the state” in the field of human rights.

A US diplomatic official reviewed some of the points in his country’s annual report on the reality of human rights in the world, including Algeria, to which 20 pages of the report were devoted.

He told Echorouk; “There has been some improvement. For example, the police leadership has developed several workshops from NGOs about prisons, and the police services are following complaints against their officers and even officers. This is good, the police services do not mean harassment”.

On the other hand, the American diplomat spoke of some of the drawbacks in the report, which was published on Wednesday, including the difficulty of obtaining rooms for meetings of some activists, and refused the interference of officials in the International Labor Office.

Regarding the arrests of some journalists, after the case of seizing 701 kg of cocaine in the past summer, he explained; “We discussed with Algerian government officials about this issue, and the response was that the measures were taken in accordance with national legislation.”
