A meeting held by the Democratic Transition Coordination in Algiers raised many questions about its future. The RCD’s former leader Said Saadi met with the FIS’ senior members, Islamists and his rival the FFS party. Former head of governments Mouloud Hamrouche and Ali Benflis met as well while Abdallah Djaballah met his former colleagues.

Professor Abdelali Rezagui from the Information and Communication Faculty Wednesday said the opposition parties have entered the real opposition scene for the first time in Algeria’s history since the 1994 Rome meeting.

« The extremist secular trend met the FIS’ leading members. No party was excluded. Speaking about elections after the constitutional amendment will surely lead to Parliament’s dissolution, » he told Echorouk.

Lawyer Messaoud Adimi said the meeting showed that the Algerian people are the first concerned part. The Coordination could overcome its political conflicts for one single principle which Algeria’s future.

He believes that the regime could not lead a serious dialogue as its first and last goal was remaining in power.

« The 1990’s RCD and FIS are not that of 2014 as they did not talk about an ideological ideas. The most important thing is that they all sounded the alarm over the necessity of mobilizing all the political forces and people before it is too late, » he said.
