Yacine Brahimi Is Vying To Succeed Mahrez In CAF 2017 Best Player Award

The CAF Confederation on Wednesday listed Algerian international Yacine Brahimi as one of the favorites for the 2017 African Footballer of the Year award.

Brahimi, is vying for such a prestigious award together with 29 other African players, including among others  Borussia Dortmund’s Gabonese  Pierre Emeric Obamyang, Egypt’s front-line forward of Liverpool Mohamed Salah, as well as his team-mate  Senegalese playmaker Sadio Mane and Chelsea  striker Nigerian Victor Moses.

Yacine Brahimi  (27 years) won in the past few days the award of the best player of  the Portuguese first-league championship  for the 2016-2017 season.

The CAF has granted the right to vote in this selection contest to African national team coaches (54 national voters), members of the CAF technical committee in charge of football development, and experts of the football game.

Malagasy CAF President Ahmed Ahmed will chair a high-profile ceremony on January 4th 2018 in Accra, Ghana, where he will announce the winner of the 2017 African Player of the Year award.

It is worth mentioning that Algerian star Riyad Mahrez, the Leicester City striker, was the laureate of the previous 2016 award. 

The CAF award is only extended to African football players who are active outside the Africa continent.
