Hundreds of municipal guards rallied outside the home of former President Liamine Zeroual on Wednesday, demanding that the interim government be accepted following the recent developments stemming from the resignation of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and the announcement of a constitutional vacancy.
More than 200 members of the national coordination of the municipal guards representing 36 provinces of the country gathered Wednesday morning in front of the entrance of former President Liamine Zeroual’s home in Batna city to invite him to take over and oversee the transitional period.
But the former President didn’t seem enthusiastic about such an idea, leaving room for the new generations.
According to the leaks from the get-together, Liamine Zeroual expressed admiration and support for the great peaceful protest movement unfolding across the country since Friday February 22nd.
He called for the total solidarity of the people and the ANP Army in order to ensure the success of the peaceful democratic transition project which requires from all and sundry to act “hand in hand” to gain achievements and to head off any damaging tension and drifts.
