1.000 sheep perish in shady circumstances ahead of Eid Adha feast
The General Inspectorate at the Finance ministry has opened an in-depth inquiry into the shady circumstances surrounding the conclusion of consensual deals for the purchase of 7 thousand sheep by an animal and plant production company inked to the Agriculture ministry and based in the locality of Birtouta east of Algiers.
The opening of such an investigation was based on a fact-finding report conveyed to the Finance and Agriculture ministries on the sudden death of 1.000 sheep in murky circumstances and the purchase of 3.000 others with the injunction to sell them even at a loss in less than a month period.
It should be noted that the Algerian laws regulations prohibit commercial deals by mutual consent without the prior setting up of a committee of specialists and experts in animal production in charge of issuing the necessary green light for such transactions.
According to the report, several big farms initially specialized in the production of cereals and animal fodder notably in the towns of Laghouat and Berrouaghia in the eastern part of the country have been converted in mysterious conditions into potato plantations by their venal owners.
The report brought into focus the nefarious practices by a number of private land and firm owners who want to garner the maximum money through devious means to the detriment of animal production only a few weeks before the religious Eid El Adha feast.
