100 billion Dinars earmarked for scientific research over 5-year period in Algeria

The Algerian state has earmarked 100 billon dinars for scientific research over the next five years with the aim of financing, among other projects, the implementation of 34 national research programmes.

•  “The budget, which is geared particularly to the implementation of 34 national research programmes, represents up to three times the financial package spent during the past five years,” President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika said at an assessment meeting Saturday devoted to the sector of scientific research.
• “It shows the State’s resolve to make of scientific research a national priority,” the Head of State added, pointing out that the public expenditure in the field “will be increased, unsparingly provided that the allocated sum is used accordingly.”
•  After emphasizing that all the activities undertaken so far have mainly helped the fostering of a national research system, President Bouteflika pointed out, at the closing of the meeting, that scientific research should be viewed as a national priority as it would cover economic, social and cultural arenas of the nation.
