Millions of Internet users could not visit Algeria AADL website due to the large number of visitors at the same time. The number of applicants showed that housing crisis in Algeria can not be solved by the two-million-houses plan.

Early on Monday’s morning, hundreds of people went to cybercafés to apply for the AADL housing program on its official website. It was blocked due to pressure.

At 10:47 am, the number of applicants in Algiers reached 50,000 while official figures from the Algerian housing ministry said their number was estimated at 60,000 at noon.

At 1:30 pm, the number of applicants reached about 88,000. That shows the housing problem seriousness among Algerian people. At around 4:30 pm, the number of applicants was estimated at 127,000.

Yet, many could not apply due to the huge number of the website visitors.

The website was opened at 8:20 am but visitors could not check it until 9:30 am.

The downloadable application form included clear information about the applicants starting from the name, birth date and place, occupation, employer, salary, parent’s name, marital status, the identity card and social security numbers.

Some Internet users on Facebook seized the opportunity to post ironic comments. “Since that the 2001’s applications were renewed in 2013 and have not received their houses yet, you can wait until 2026,” said a comment.

Housing ministry:  application date is not a criterion to get a house

According to a source at the housing ministry, the AADL website will remain opened until all the people who want to get houses finish their applications.

Applications date is not a criterion to get a house as there are certain criteria to be respected when granting houses.

Speaking about the website problem, the same source said it is due to the rush to the website at the same time. Pressure will decrease by days.
