15 employees at Algeria External Bank detained over embezzlement

Prosecutor of Skikda court, eastern Algeria, ordered on Tuesday the detention of 15 high employees, including two women, in temporary prison on charges of embezzlement of more than 50 billion centimes from Agencies in Skikda, Constantine and Annaba, that belong to the Algerian External Bank.

Services of the national gendarmerie expanded their investigations to include a lot of agencies of the bank in eastern and central cities of the country.

The scandal which shook the AEB, according to information available to Echorouk, back to an information that was received by the research team of gendarmerie in Skikda, from the cell of judicial control of the bank, stating the existence if a large financial gap in the number of agencies that belong to the BEA in Skikda, Annaba and Constantine, eastern Algeria.

Subsequently, the research team launched an inquiry in the case, and discovered that there is a financial gap of 15 billion centimes.

Circle of accusation spread to include 15 officials including two women, who embezzled money from the AEB and laundered them for transfer abroad.

The accused are also charged with wasting public money, forgery and use of forget, misuse of position,  money laundry and transfer to abroad.

According to Echorouk sources, although the 15 employees of the bank are accused in the case, but the final number of implicated employees is not yet determined and is still related to what was decided by the investigative judge, as the case which is related to corruption is supposed to include stealing public money and embezzlement.
