1,500 Moroccan workers seek Algerian nationality

Union sources revealed that Moroccan families displaced from Timouchent, Bechar, Tindouf , Tlemcen and Enaama( south of Algeria), contacted the general-secretary of the central trade union, Mr.Abdelmadjid Sidi Essaid, asking him to intervene in order to help them getting Algerian nationality.

  • Moroccan workers in Algerian companies and public administrations in western provinces said that they addressed a collective letter to the Secretary General of the Algerian Workers’ Union asking for the Algerian nationality because they have been living with their families in Algeria since the sixties and seventies, and some since the eighties.

  • The same sources told Echorouk that more than 5,000 Moroccan workers are working in western Algerian institutions, who have signed a collective letter addressed to Mr. Sidi.

  • It is known that the number of Moroccans residing permanently in Algeria in estimated at 45,000 Moroccan, as confirmed by the minister delegated in charge of Maghreb and African affairs, Abdelkader Msahel, last week, but the central trade union refused to intervene to settle their status, considering that issue as having no relationship with the workers social and professional’ rights.
