168 forest fires across 12 Algerian provinces cause high temperatures

Forest fires encroached over the last two days to 12 Algerian provinces, including central and eastern regions, where people faced a dangerous status because of the high temperature and southern wind speed.

  • Algerian directorate of forests registered 168 fires which were controlled and stopped thanks to the forests’ interests in collaboration with the civil protection and the Algerian Army, who found difficulty in controlling the fires that broke out in various locations of the center, especially in Larbaa, Sohane and Chria in Blida province ( center of Algeria), and Tablat in addition to Echanoua Mount in Tipaza ( east of Algiers) as well as Ait Yahia Moussa in Tizi Ouzou (east of Algiers), where firefighters continued their operations to save trees from the flames, until the early hours of Wednesday, where the fire which broke out in Chria mountain was stopped and the orther one in Chanoua mountains was stopped at 3:00 AM, bringing high temperatures to Algiers and its adjacents to more than 40 degrees.
  • Accordeing to the Director of Forestry, the fires’ sites which broke out on Tuesday reached 58 locations, that are spread across 12 provinces, including Ettaref, Jijel, Bejaia, Gualma, Annaba, Skikda ( east of Algeria), Tizi Ouzou, Bouira, Elblida and Medea (centre of Algeria).
  • It is noteworthy that the interests of forests was supported this season with electric radios which help speed the reporting of the fires, in addition to 100 cars to become 300 trucks equipped for interventions.
