A total of 1,800 schools do not have headmasters in the province of Mascara, Blida and Oum Labouaghi while classrooms contain 60 pupils each, Echorouk has learnt.

Although the school year begun a month ago, the problem of vacant position of headmasters still exists due to a conflict between the administration and public service .

Employees’ department will have to intervene to appoint headmasters as they finished their training.

According to the same sources, the beginning of the school year 2013/2014 is “catastrophic” as the number of pupils in primary and high schools reached 60 per classroom and 45 in others in the provinces of Blida, Mascara, Tlemcen, Oum Labouaghi, Algiers and Relizane.

Education authority chiefs of those provinces sent written reports to the Algerian education ministry to inform them about the problems and find solutions.
