2008/2009 School Year / Algerian government allocates 900 billion Dinars to pupils’ scholarships

The national education Minister Aboubakr Benbouziz has enjoined the Walis or Governors and the local authorities in charge of solidarity operations in the 48 provinces of Algeria to provide needy and destitute pupils with books and clothing on the occasion of the new academic year 2008/2009.

• In this respect, Aboubakr Benbouzid who gave the symbolic kick-off on Saturday of the new school-year at the El Hamma national Library in Algiers, together with the Agriculture Minister Rachid Benaissa, told reporters that the Algerian government had decided , at the behest of President Abdellaziz Bouteflika, to hike the pupils’ scholarships this year to up to 3000 dinars in addition to the distribution, free of charge, of millions of books and other requisites.
