2991 accidents kill 409 citizens during summer in Algeria
Algerian Gendarmerie recorded during the past summer season 2991 accidents in 14 coastal provinces, causing the death of 409 citizens and wounding 5157 others, where August saw the highest rate of about 40% of the total number of accidents, and Algiers occupied the forefront with 394 traffic accidents, followed by Oran province (west of Algeria) with 374 accidents, then Tipaza province (east of Algiers) with 279 accidents, Mostaganem (west of Algeria) 263 accidents, Tlemcen 257 accidents, and finally Echlef with 224 accidents.

The same interests aded that the first reason behind these various accidents is the excessive speed, which usually leads to instant death.

The Algerian gendarmerie was able to register 46.000 traffic laws’ violations, where 368 drivers were arrested for serious abuses, and in order to reduce the traffic accidents on highways, the National gendarmerie suggensted a new law, which classifies the instigators of fatal traffic accidents as criminals who must be imprisoned and punished.
