3.1 magnitude quake rocks Boumerdes

A 3.1 magnitude quake hit Boumerdes province (50 km east of Algiers) Wednesday, seismologists said.

  • There were no reports of serious casualties from the quake which struck at 11:26.
  • Research Centre in Geophysics C.R.A.A.G of Algeria said the quake epicentre was 5 kilometres north-west of Boumerdes.
  • In May 2003, a 6.8 magnitude quake hit Boumerdes killing over 2,000 people.
