341 fires destroy 3.000 hectares since the beginning of the summer season
Flames are still devouring tens of hectares of forest areas. Services of the civil protection registered only on Sunday more than 20 fires in the several Algerian localities, bringing the number of fires since the 1st of June to 341 fires at a time the services noticed a lack of helicopters to control and stop the fires, while 75 people died after being drowned in the sea since the beginning of the summer season.

Director of the organization and coordination of aid at the general directorate of the civil protection, Khellaf Mohamed said, “Our services recorded, since the beginning of last June until July 26 over 341 fires which damaged more than 3000 hectares of forests at the national level”.

“ The figures published by the national press on the number of the fires that were registered in the various regions of Algeria are not exact, because only four fires were recorded in Tissemsilet, west of Algeria, two in Tizi Ouzou, Tipaza, and Jijel, east, and Ain Defla, west, and only one fire in each Batna, Souk Ahras, Bordj Bouariridj, east of Algeria, and Chlef and Mascara, west, while the remaining fires that affected Bouira, Mascara and Tizi Ouzou, are the most important, where groups of fire-fighters were sent to extinguish them”, he says.

On the summer season, the number of people who died after drowning in the coastal beaches reaches 75, compared to 45 in 2008, a rise that needs more vigilance and caution by the citizens.
