According to the anti-cancer health department of the university hospital of Oran , 450 km west of Algiers , a total of 350 women are suffering from cervix cancer annually across the national territory.

The Oran hospital doctors are envisaging to launch a large-scale vaccination campaign for the benefit of those women affected by this serious ailment.

Medical sources said that the planned vaccination drive would chiefly concern girls aged between 13 and 15 in a bid to stem this disease at an early age.
The same sources also indicated that the relevant vaccine developed by senior physicians and laboratory researchers in the world is deemed to be fully efficient.
The financial package earmarked by the Algerian health ministry for this vaccination project is estimated at 280 million dinars.
The vaccination operation will be free of charge for the patients, said a health official.
According to figures released by the health ministry, 70% of the women affected by cervix cancer pathology are aged between 30 and 35.
The cervix cancer disease curtails by about 8 years the life expectancy of affected women, according to a report issued recently by the Geneva-based world health organization.
