400 arrested, 121 injured, 270 billion centimes losses in Algeria riots
Clashes across those areas caused more than 300 billion centimes losses including 150 billion in Chlef only.

Recent tragic events in different towns in Algeria caused more than 270 billion centimes damage while over 400 suspects were arrested. Of them, 75 appeared in court, according to officials.Chlef (west of Algiers), Beriane (south) and Kouba in Algiers made the event in the last few weeks and considered as tension centres.

  • Hundreds of anti-riot forces were mobilised and security forces alongside with the National Gendarmerie and the Civil Protection are in high alert to face any emergency.
  • Clashes across those areas caused more than 300 billion centimes losses including 150 billion in Chlef only.
  • In Beriane, the losses are estimated at 10 million DA while Kouba’s events caused 6 billion centimes. The rest of the losses were recorded in other provinces.
  • A total of 400 suspects were arrested in the clashes between anti-riot forces and protestors. Of them, 75 appeared in court especially those who are suspect for being behind those events. Twenty appeared in Chlef’s court which acquitted 13 of them including a child. Seven others were sentenced to 6 months in prison.
  • A total of 28 suspects appeared in court for Beriane’s events. The Attorney General had required different sentences for most of the protestors pending to decide in a number of postponed cases.
  • Justice required prison sentence for 16 suspects out of 25 arrested in Kouba’s events which took place before a match between two local football squads in Algiers on May 23rd.
  • Around 120 people were injured in the different events including 37 who have undergone a continuous treatment. Most of the injuries were recorded in security agents while some injured protestors fainted due to tear-gas.
  • Some 50 police cars were seriously damaged because of the violent clashes including 6 cars which were totally broken.
