400 thousand students denied scholarship grant

Some 874 thousand and 127 students benefitted from the scholarship grant over the academic year 2012- 2013 which represents 75% of the Algerian students, figures released by the University Services National Office reveal.

Meanwhile, 400 thousands among them were denied this advantage due to their parents’ high income or their failure to pass the year twice in a row.

The number of the exclusion was halved in comparison to last year passing from 200 thousands to 400 thousands despite the increase of the number of the students to more than 1 million 230 thousands.

Most of the students were denied the scholarship grant because their parents didn’t pay their taxes especially those that operate in the commercial sector, while others have forwarded fake documents.

The figures show the significant number of the students that benefit from the scholarship which exceeds 800 thousands and prove that these students belong to the poor and middle class social category.

The same figures reveal that 7908 foreign students, mostly African ones from various nationalities, benefit from accommodation within the campuses.
