60 percent of computer specialists leave Algeria: minister

Algerian Minister of Posts and Information and Communication Technologies Hamid Bessaleh Tuesday said around 60 percent of graduates from institutes and colleges in computer, high technologies and communication field leave Algeria to work abroad.

The minister stressed the need to an immediate revision of current training methods to increase the number of graduates.

“This is meant to allow the Algerian government implementing the 5-year-programme to establish a real cyber-society,” he said.

According to him, the number of graduates from all high institutes, specialised schools and colleges do not exceed 11,000 per year. “More than 60 of them leave the country to other spaces. Because of that, it is difficult to execute Algeria’s strategy of the cyber-society.”

He added that investment programmes which have been achieved since 2000 allowed breaking isolation on all areas in Algeria including fix and mobile telephone.
