700 kilos of Cannabis seized west of Algeria
Algerian National Gendarmerie seized Thursday 700 kilos of Cannabis hidden in a car abandoned by drug smugglers in Tlemcen locality, west of Algeria.

Border guards in Tlemcen province, seized 694 kilos of drugs on board of a vehicle abandoned by its driver, who escaped, according to national gendarmerie.

The National Office to foght drugs and addiction ONLDT said, 17 tons of Cannabis was seized between January and September in Algeria, and 16 tons were seized during the same period in 2007.

“22 kilos of cocaine also have been intercepted in 2007 and 7, 7 kg in 2006, showing that Algeria is becoming one of drugs transit countries,” said executive at the ONLDT, Salah Abdenouri.

“Algeria is also exposed to “synthetic drugs” from sub-Saharan countries seeking to finance their crossing the Mediterranean to Europe,” he added.
