9 Algerians accused of theft and public offenses still detained in South African prisons
South African head of Police General Biki Sili has announced that 9 Algerians are still detained in South African jails on charges of manifold offenses.

Taking the floor during a press conference held in the city of Johannesburg, General Sili indicated 316 people in all had been rounded up by South African police since the kick-off of the World cup tournament in early June in several South African cities, the venues of world cup matches.

Those people now in detention are accused of committing several offenses including the theft of mobile phones, cameras and camescopes, he said.

He said that the 9 Algerians now in prison would face similar charges like the rest of all the other wrongdoers arrested.

They will be tried soon, he added.

General Biki Sili also asserted that 33 other people had been arrested in connection with the illicit sale of stadium tickets, stressing that a total of 44 thousand policemen had been mobilized to ensure security during this 2010 World cup contest now-being hosted by South Africa.
