14 Algerian Associations in France Declare War on Article 51 of Constitution

These associations insisted on the severe and formal opposition of Article 51 of the constitution, which raises a lot of questions, believing that the division of Algerian people into two categories is unacceptable.

A joint statement for the 14 Algerian Association in France, which copy is available to Echorouk, revealed early in January, unveiled a draft amendment to the Algerian Constitution, which came as a strong shock to the Algerian people and in particular the community that is living abroad, and which enjoys the dual citizenship, but they are very committed to homeland, considering that Article 51 of the proposed amendment, affects all Algerians at home and abroad.

Statement wondered about the real reason to make access to high positions in state jobs and politics for persons who have only the Algerian nationality, and why does Algerian government deprives the nation from benefiting from the available skills, competencies and expertise of its children, whether at home or abroad.

Same statement criticized the clear contradiction that exists between the spirit of Articles 24, 29 and 31, on the one hand, and Article 51 on the other hand, that talks about the equality of all citizens, especially as the community participated at homeland and abroad in the writing of the history of Algeria and defending its ideas, including the National Movement and the Federtion of the National Liberation Front in France, and demonstrations of October 17, 1961, and others.

Statement, that carried the slogan “From the people, for the people”, asked the authorities to immediately abolish Article 51 and all the similar articles, which are against the Constitution and are unfair for all Algerians.
