International Tender For Algeria's East-West Highway Last Section

Algeria’s public works ministry will announce an international tender in July 2012 for construction of the last section of the East-West Highway, the ministry’s director of planning Mohamed Moheiddine told reporters Thursday.

• The highway, estimated to cost around USD 11 billion and work on which began in 2009, runs 1,216km from the Moroccan border to the Tunisian border, connecting Algeria’s major coastal cities.
• The mega project is 98% complete and will have 76 rest stops equipped with all the necessary amenities.
• “We expect to achieve the entire highway in September 2013 at the latest,” Moheiddine said.
