Army Forces Thwart an Arm Deal Between Libyan Militants and AQIM

Joint security forces have thwarted an arm trafficking operation between Libyan traffickers and militants of al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, southern Tamneraset southern province, security sources said.

Special units of army forces and security services have conducted an air landing in nomad areas, southern Tamenrasset, and managed to arrest a Mauritanian and Libyan holding secret documents containing list of fighters, pertaining to “Ahl al-Suna” front, Libyan rebels’ squadrons.

The documents shows that AQIM militants are about to head to Northern Mali, where they are supposed to be delivered sophisticated weapons smuggled from Libya by the aforementioned “Ahl al Suna” front.

The sources added that a third element, believed to be a senior official at the AQIM, was tasked of meeting the two arrested men, before they head to Northern Mali.
