Victims of Khalifa Bank in Canada and USA called upon Human Rights Watch in New York to recover their money

Representative of the Association of Khalifa Bank victims in Canada and USA, Noureddine Laoubi said in a phone call with Echorouk that the Human Rights Watch in New York responded to the desire of the association to consider requests of Khalifa Bank victims abroad, demanding a technical file about data of Khalifa issue in order to determine a special meeting with its representative David Sakal.

Mr. Laaoubi, said from USA that the victims refuse compensation of 5% and wonder about the promises of President Bouteflika which he announced on television in 2004, pointing out that he received the response of the international human rights watch last Friday, and it is a chance of hope for the victims, who are businessmen and owners of projects in both USA and Canada.

For his part, Head of the Association of Khalifa Bank Victims, Omar Abed, told Echorouk that his association is striving to recover the victims’ money which went, as he said “in the wind”, asking for hundred percent compensation for 15.000 clients of Khalifa Bank, as justice had decided their compensation at the amount of 600.000 dinars.

The association resorted, according to the same spokesman to the French lawyer “Claire” in order to follow the complaint against the Bank of Algeria by virtue of the proceeds of Khalifa Bank losses before bankruptcy, but the French lawyer thought that Khalifa case cannot be subject to international laws, as long as the assembly of victims has not yet got the final resolution which was already put in front of the Criminal Court of Blida, which is still in front of the Supreme Court.
