A 30-year-old suicide bomber behind suicide attack on army patrol in Algeria
The place where the attack was carried out.

According to local corroborating sources, the attack which targeted a truck belonging to the Algerian National Army in Lakhdaria in Bouira province (120 km east of Algiers) causing 13 wounded was carried out by a 30-year-old man.

  • It is believed that the suicide bomber was riding a motorcycle and attacked the military truck which was going out of a barrack 200 meters from the attack place.
  • This barrack was targeted by a suicide attack on July 11th 2007 leaving 11 soldiers dead.  
  • Resort to motorcycles means terrorists’ failure
  • The suicide bomber is likely to be one of new recruited members of suicide cell belonging to the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC) led by Abdelmalek Droudkel, Echorouk learnt from security sources.
  • Security experts believe that the terrorist attack happened in GSPC’s main stronghold. “That confirms the end of suicide cell in Algiers.”
  • According to them, resort to motorcycles shows that “they fail to use car bombs as usual.” “Their objective is to overcome the difficulty security checkpoints”.

  • Security observers confirmed that the only option available today for Droudkal is the use of suicide belts due to tightened up surveillance. 
  • Earlier, A republican guard barrack in eastern Algiers was targeted by a failed attempt of suicide belt.
