Vigorous communications between the Algerian Embassy and the Syrian authorities to free the Algerian journalist Khaled Sayed Mhanad detained since more than two weeks, a diplomatic source from the Algerian Embassy told Echorouk.

The source added that the Algerian Embassy in Damascus, since the first day of Khaled’s detention, took the necessary measures, as the Ambassador contacted officials in the Syria Foreign Ministry which provided an official inquiry promising to release him immediately after the end of investigations, just like the rest of journalists who were detained in these events.

Same sources asserted that the embassy was waiting a response from the Syrian FM to explain the causes and circumstances of his detention and that what was said about possession of weapons in media remains just hearsay that is not yet confirmed, but by the Syrian authorities’ response to the embassy’s inquiry.

They added that the Algerian community in Syria safe and the embassy did not register a death, and the majority of Algerians live in Damascus and Aleppo where incidents are less violent.
