A hapless family made up of 4 disabled children facing utter misery and disease in Biskra province

With a few days to go before the celebration on December 3rd of the day of the disabled in Algeria, Echorouk's field reporters went on au assignment mission to the south-eastern province of Biskra where they paid a visit to a very destitute family whose hapless members are living from hand to mouth and are now on the verge of starvation.

• This desolate family made up of 4 disabled children whose age varies between 22 and 13 years old is settled in the locality of Ouled Djellal  about 100 km from the city of Biskra.

• The father of this very poor family called Mahyaoui Fateh has a monthly income of just 3.000 dinars and is facing as a result tremendous difficulties to feed his family.

• This family who is living in a ramshackle dwelling in appalling conditions in an isolated area of Ouled Djellal is facing starvation and disease on account of the total indifference and neglect on the part of the local authorities.

• The unfortunate father tearfully related his daily ordeal to Echorouk’s reporters on the spot and heartily appealed to the local authorities of the province of Biskra to give him a helping hand in order to take care of his 4 heavily disabled children and their  very sick mother who are stripped, because of this blameworthy indifference and neglect, of the basic living conditions.

• The health of his 4 heavily disabled children is going from bad to worse by leaps and bounds on account of hunger and a lack of medical care, he woefully asserted.

• He stressed that his manifold requests over the past few years to the local authorities of Ouled Djellal had remained a dead letter adding that his only wish was to see an end to the appalling ordeal now besetting his unfortunate family through the active help and assistance of all the well- meaning and humane citizens of the region and elsewhere in the country.
