A man tries to recruit youngsters west of Algeria to join terrorist groups in Iraq

Cases related to trying to recruit Algerian youngsters among Al Qaeda groups in Iraq are still brought to Algiers criminal courts, though their fewer number compared to the previous sessions.

• In this context, an Algerian youngster born in 1978 named “K.B” from Oran, west of Algeria, was brought to Algiers criminal court on charges of joining a terrorist group operating inside and outside Algeria. He was arrested by security services in Oran, after investigation showed he planned to travel to Iraq via Syria in order to join armed groups there, as indicated in his judicial file.

• The accused “K.B” was in contact with Algerian youngsters, who were exchanging information in order to prepare the ground for Al Qaeda groups in Iraq and fight foreign troops there.

• Security services caught him before his departure, but he denied all facts, asserting that has was in Switzerland and has nothing to do with terrorism.
