Abdelaziz Affani appointed new Director General in replacement of Late Ali Tounsi

The interior minister Noureddine Yazid Zerhouni has appointed as Abdelaziz Affani as the acting Director General of the Algerian National Security few hours after the killing of Colonel Ali Tounsi.

  • He is considered as the second man in this institution after being promoted few weeks earlier to take the position of the head of the detective division at the National security head office.

  • The new director General, who is native from the province of Mostaghanem (western Algeria) is considered as one the most experienced police officers and also a staunch anti- terrorism fighter. He hit the headlines in 1993 when he aborted a terrorist attack against a bank in Algiers and busted the terrorists.

  • He was appointed as the head of the police chief of the province of Boumerdes amid mounting terrorist activities in this mountainous region known to be the stronghold of the terrorist organization “Salafit Group for Call and Combat”.

  • The first task that has been assigned to the new director General is to carry out the investigation on the killing of his predecessor Colonel Ali Tounsi
