Abdellaziz Rahabi: “Algeria should have vied for General Secretariat of Arab League”

The former Ambassador of Algeria in Spain, Mr Abdellaziz Rahabi, has said that Algeria should have vied for the post of Secretary General of the Arab League given its political weight and geo-strategic position.

  • Mr Rahabi told “Echorouk” that he did not understand why the relevant Algerian authorities did not file an Algerian candidate for the post of Arab League Secretary General in replacement of Mr Amr Moussa whose mandate at the head of the Pan-Arab organization has just expired.
  •
  •
  •
  • He indicated in this respect that Algeria could have put forth the candidacy of several seasoned diplomats like Mr Ramtane Lamamra or Mr Ahmed Attaf whose political and diplomatic skills are widely recognized instead of having to choose between a Egyptian and a Qatari candidate.
  •
  •
  •
  • Mr Abdellaziz Rahabi also recalled Algeria’s declared position which is against the clamping down of a monopoly by Egypt on the senior posts at the Arab League stressing that the Arab League’s chairmanship should be held on a rotating basis involving all the member-states.
